RAH

Rebecca Ann Hutchins

RAH is a photographer and painter from San Francisco.  RAH studied fine art photography at Columbia College in Chicago and spent most of her time in the wet darkroom overlooking The Magnificent Mile.  The city of Chicago full of beautiful grit and old architecture, filled her soul and film.  Digital photography was introduced to her as she worked as the Advertising photographer for The Times Newspaper.  Life shifted again and RAH moved to San Francisco, and went to Academy of Art.  After years and years of shooting digitally, she found that she always went back to shooting fine art photographs on Film.  She currently is using plastic cameras and pinholes in her current studies of landscapes, sea water, light and blur.

As a painter, RAH takes inspiration from her pinhole film images to recreate the feeling in paint.  Her paintings are described as a peaceful blur of movement and contrast.

RAH Fine Art Photography & Painting

ARTIST STATEMENT

RAH is Rebecca Ann Hutchins.  As a life-long photographer and art explorer, RAH has always been in the world of creating.  After studying Fine Art photography at Columbia College in Chicago, she went on to work for newspapers, studios and even shot weddings for many years.  She found herself craving the grain and textures of film photography.  RAH experiments with plastic cameras, pinholes and other manipulations of the camera to create the blur, movement and imperfections that makes the photographs look painterly.

The paintings are inspired by the photographs and taken to the next level of texture and contrast.  She wants her images and paintings to feel like a breath, a whisper… a nod to the spirit within us.
